Mary Shustack shops around

The search is over!

I have, as you might have read here before, been looking for a pair of slouch boots.

I first mentioned that the search was on in August.

Then, when on vacation last month, I found a pair of boots that while not slouches, might have satisfied the craving.

But you know, they did not.

As great as they are, they’re just not hitting that echo of the 1980s I was hoping for.

In recent weeks, I had stopped the obsessive looking, no longer checking out most every shoe store and coming away disappointed. I’d been through it too many times. Too snug. Too suede. Too high.

Then, earlier this afternoon, I was between an assignment in Mount Kisco and one in Chappaqua. I had just grabbed a quick lunch and was headed toward the Saw Mill when I realized I’d pass the Annie sez.

Figuring I’d just pop in to see what bags and totes they had, I headed to the back of the store. And after browsing among the Perlina and Hype bags, I saw the shoe department.

And there they were. Up on top of a display shelf.

I had to look closer.

They seemed to be IT. Right height. Right material (a faux leather of a sort). Now, would they be too snug to pull on? I easily slipped into them, thanks to a clever “half zipper” down the inner seam that allowed for a perfect fit.

The brand is Chilis, the model “Artsy,” described as “vintage stretch.” Oh, yes, I was back in that glorious decade to be sure.

I scooted over to pay, just $34.99. and nearly jogged out to the parking lot and my next appointment. All with a smile.

I guess it’s true what they say about finding love — it will come to you when you stop looking.

And I do love these boots.
