Mary Shustack shops around

Holiday spirit

November
27

Just heard about a nice event that kind of falls between shopping and gardening.

Of course, my colleague Bill Cary’s blog is the place for gardening news, but I told him I’d share this here, as well.

Lasdon Park, Arboretum and Veterans Memorial in Somers is hosting its inaugural Holiday Open House and Poinsettia Show this weekend.

It all kicks off Friday night with a preview party hosted in the main house. The evening will include wine, hors d’oeuvres and live classical music. Admission is $25. Make required reservations by calling 914-864-7268.

Then, from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, those looking for inspiration for holiday decorating (and gifts, of course) can tour the main house in all its holiday finery. The country-style main house will be elegantly decorated, with floral designs and arrangements to be highlighted by a poinsettia “tree.”

There will also be an art show and sale featuring the works of botanical artist Corinne Lapin Cohen and her students.

The suggested donation is $5.

Visitors are also invited to stop by the Shop at Lasdon, where holiday plants will be featured along with gardening-related items.

Lasdon is on Route 35. For more details, call 914-864-7268.
