Mary Shustack shops around

Spreading the news

April
22

I’m going to spend a little time this afternoon catching up on some postings, so expect a couple of entries after this one.

First up, I wanted to let you know about a great new resource that came across my desk a few days ago, arriving after a phone call from Marty Collins, a writer with the Putnam County Visitors Bureau.

It’s the new edition of the Putnam County Travel Guide, a free. 44-page guide to a county that I love to both visit and shop:

The guide’s another attractive effort, filled with great ideas for day trips, activities and annual events.

There’s a bit of history, a lot of photographs — and a strong sense of the region.

But you know me… when Collins called to ask about coverage, I immediately asked if there were shopping destinations included — and there were.

I told her some other editors here to send copies to but secured my own for the shopping news:

In fact, I was just up in Putnam on Friday, working on several stories. The Museum Shop at Boscobel, one of the attractions at Boscobel House and Gardens in Garrison, will be an upcoming “Shop of the Week” feature.

And I’m also doing a story on Barbara Galazzo, who creates vibrant fused glass work out of a studio in Cold Spring.

Of course, after my interviews, I spent some time walking up and down Main Street in Cold Spring, scoping out places for future stories.

And now, I have the new Putnam guide to help me even further.

For a copy, contact the Putnam visitors bureau – visit its Web site or call 845-225-0381.
