Got all you need for the beach?
I know a lot of people already hit the sand this past weekend, but for those who are still putting their beach gear together, here’s a tip.

Her shop, Pretty Funny Antiques, in Tarrytown is a year-round treasure trove for all things vintage.
It’s always fun to stop by and poke around — something I did just a few weeks ago to take advantage of her “Spring Extravaganza” sale. (And it did live up to its name).
Well, this weekend, Leggio’s holding yet another special event.

Think stogies, bogeys and the like.
And while it’s not the kind of place the ladies would while away an afternoon, Doc James Cigars & Golf makes for good hunting ground for Father’s Day gifts.

The weather was just amazing.
And it was ideal for my first visit of the year to the Stormville Airport Antique Show & Flea Market.
The show is a regional institution, filling the fields of the old airport in Stormville (in Dutchess County) with some 600 dealers. The show is held seven times a year, and I normally hit at least four of them.
The ones I go to are the two-day editions — tied to holiday weekends (Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day and Columbus Day). Traditionally, these are the strongest for antiques and collectibles.

I wrote a story about him last summer, when things were starting to take off for the then-25-year-old — exhibitions, galleries carrying his work, etc.
Seems he’s on a roll — again.

But I was back this morning.
Instead of “just browsing” — sorry, couldn’t resist — I was there to take an even closer look since it’s going to be my “Shop of the Week” for next week.
And the minute I opened the door of the Peekskill shop, its charms hit me again.

It just smells “old” — in a good, good way. Read more of this entry »
I have been meaning to get to PayHalf, and even though it was a rainy afternoon, I made a little detour to the Tarrytown store on my way to an interview in Nyack a couple of hours ago.
I was in the city earlier for interviews at the National Stationery Show and the International Contemporary Furniture Fair — and then needed to swing by a Nyack gallery that’s carrying the greeting cards by an artist I’m writing about (stay tuned for that story).
Well, here’s the “backstory” on why I’ve been thinking about PayHalf lately. Read more of this entry »
You have to give credit to people who keep re-inventing themselves.
I was at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair at the Javits Center earlier today and stopped by the booth of Liora Manné. Read more of this entry »
I don’t usually go away for Memorial Day weekend.
It’s more of a stay-home-and-grill event, though I usually manage to make it up to the Stormville Airport Antique Show & Flea Market.
But if you’re going to be a houseguest over the long weekend, you’ll probably want to consider a hostess gift.
