Sad to hear…

I never like to hear about a store closing — you just imagine all the work that went into it and how it will change the face of the community once it leaves.
Earlier today, I heard that Wondrous Things is leaving Croton-on-Hudson after nearly 20 years.
The shop specialized in jewelry, clothing and gift items, along with plenty of toys.
My colleague Robert Marchant has written a news story about the departure; it’s set to run over the weekend, so check The Journal News and here on LoHud.com for the piece (Robert says most likely on Sunday).
The closing, Robert says he learned, was due to both a slowdown in demand for “non-essential” purchases and simply, the state of the economy.
I know a lot of people, especially those Croton regulars who’ve long shopped there, will feel the loss.
The shop’s satellite, in Briarcliff Manor, is said to be remaining open.
These days, news like this seems to be more common — but not any less sad.
Any thoughts on what the loss might mean to you?

This is sad news. I’ve never been there, but I know people who swore by this store for all kinds of gifts. I suppose I’d better get to the Briarcliff Manor store soon!
