Mary Shustack shops around

An unexpected source

June
12

I’m working on a story for next week, on what you can buy locally to fill your beach bag this summer — including the beach bag itself.

I’ve been “shopping” the area in search of cool items, especially those made by local companies.

Part of my reporting took me to Anderson’s Book Shop in Larchmont yesterday afternoon.

The staff there has given its recommendations for a few books to have in your beach bag — find out what they are next week — but in talking to Jennifer Siegel, I told her I often write about home, design and antiques, as well as shopping.

She told me there are antiques at Anderson’s — what??

And sure enough, she showed me a case filled with vintage finds.

Her mom, Annabelle Siegel, is both a staffer at Anderson’s and an antiques dealer. The wares are some of what she sells, with many displayed here related to books, including some really beautiful bookends.

I just love it when you go into a shop and find they have a “secret specialty.”

Check out Anderson’s, if you’ve not been. The shop not only filled with books of all kinds — but there are plenty of cards, gifts … and antiques.

It’s at 96 Chatsworth Ave. Call 914-834-6900.
