Mary Shustack shops around

Status symbol?

June
16

I’ve really gotten into the habit of carefully looking over my receipts after I come home from a shopping trip.

Most often, I admit, it’s to check out how much I saved.

Recently, though, I picked up two pairs of earrings in my local Macy’s.

Neither pair was on sale, but I thought they were both pretty and ideal for the summer (and rest of the year).

Anyway, one was from Fossil — and this one was from Kenneth Cole:

I really like them and have worn them a few times already.

They cost $38, not a “throwaway” price — but certainly not a major investment.

That’s why I had to laugh when I looked at the receipt to see I had just bought…

“Status” jewelry.

Who knew?
