A different kind of sale

Weekends seem made for a slower-paced kind of shopping.
You usually have the chance to poke around a bit, not rush in and out of a store on the way home from work, etc.
I received an update from our Rockland office about an opportunity to shop for unusual home accessories that is going on every Sunday weekend in Nyack.
I haven’t had the chance to check it out in person yet — but Arts Orientale sounds interesting.
It turns out that a woman named Jill Jones-Soderman runs an estate sale out of her home each Sunday weekend (or by appointment).
Nearly two years ago, she came into possession of a collection that represents finds from around the world.
It’s a grouping that includes furniture and wall hangings, tribal masks and paintings, sculptures and religious artifacts and other hand-crafted goods.
Here’s a look at some of the pieces in photos that were sent to us:

They are not necessarily antiques — that’s a point that’s made clear — but all were gathered by a friend of Jones-Soderman over a 30-year-period of world travels.
In addition to receiving the items, Jones-Soderman received the stories of how they were found, how many of the pieces were made and used, etc. — all of which she is happy to pass along.
The twist is that the items are being sold not for personal profit but to raise funds for a cause.
Jones-Soderman is a psychotherapist and forensic consultant with more than 35 years of therapeutic experience. She has created a nonprofit foundation that helps families “traumatized by the family-court system.”
The Family Resolution Center’s mission is to “provide psychotherapy, therapeutic mediation, court evaluations that focus on the best interest of children and guidance for families confused and overwhelmed by the experience.”
If you’re interested in the pieces featured, their stories or even the work of the Family Resolution Center, stop by the Arts Orientale sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
This weekend’s sale, I’m told, will feature Asian armoires, Jamaican wood cuts and art from the West Indies.
It’s at 10 Cornelison Ave. in Nyack.

Hi.
Just got an update that Arts Orientale is open every Saturday and Sunday, not just Sundays as we first confirmed.
