Mary Shustack shops around

Sales ahead

July
2

Today I was on the road most of the day, gathering up a great selection of ladies wrist watches for a story.

It’s going to be the “Gotta Have It” feature for the September issue of our sister publication, Rockland Magazine.

But I didn’t want to let the day go by without posting a couple of quick updates.

While in Nyack, I stopped by Great Dames Boutique — it’s tucked into the former Woolworth building at 92 Main St. — to say hello to owner Glenn Osonitsch.

I wrote about his funky store as one of the earliest “Shop of the Week” features back in February. I knew he carried some jewelry (along with his fashions) — but no watches today.

He not only pointed me to one of his neighbors — the Color Swirl Boutique — but let me know that he’ll be having a special one-day sale to coincide with the Nyack Street Fair on July 13.

That event, to run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., will feature all items outside priced from $5 to $15 each — yep, that’s a major bargain, some items reduced up to 90 percent off.

Of course, you’ll get great savings — but be sure to stop by the boutique any time. You’ll love the selection.

Call at 845-358-4909.

Another sale, but this one sooner, is set for this Saturday. It’s at the Mamaroneck home of Beth Tafuri.

Now, you might be saying… a tag sale in someone’s yard? You’re telling me about a tag sale?

Yes… and I’ll tell you why.

Tafuri, you might recall, is the force behind Beth’s Beauties, an online shop featuring all kinds of vintage finds.

I wrote about her once before here.

Well, if you take a look at my earlier post, or check out her site, you’ll get a sense of just what this sale might include.

Tafuri says… well, I’ll let you hear how she describes the event:

“It is a tag sale but I also have many, many vintage collectible items for sale as I am trying to “clean out” my house. Most of the items on my website will be here for sale. I have loads of vintage 1950’s/60’s glassware, 1960’s California Pottery Lazy Susan’s, vintage kitchen and home knick knacks. Georges Briard serving platters, McCoy canister and coffee set. Loads of vintage purses. Some vintage costume jewelry (not the whole collection). In addition, I will have regular tag sale type items, non-vintage housewares, fabric, some computer related items, loads of old Gardening and Martha Stewart Magazines.

Here are the details:

One Day, Rain or Shine
Saturday, July 5
9am – 5pm
921 Stuart Avenue (off of South Barry and Route 1
Mamaroneck, NY
(914) 584-0758.”

Now, “sadly” I am probably not going to make the sale — I put sadly in quotes, since I’d love to go to the sale but have another event that I’m really looking forward to planned.

I am going to the Stormville Airport Antique Show & Flea Market, leaving home well before 6 a.m. and getting home… whenever. I have heard the show is going to be laid out differently this time around, so I’m expecting it to take a big longer than usual to navigate — just adds to the fun, right?

Still, I’m going to keep the Mamaroneck sale in mind — but you lucky shoppers that can get there on Saturday morning should have the pick of the lot.

Have fun!

And please share details if you go — and what you buy.
