O (Pun) I

December
29

It makes some members of my family’s eyes roll when I crack up over greeting cards with puns.

Sometimes (oftentimes?) they just strike me as funny.

I’m talking about things like “I’ve bean thinking about you” with a picture of a string bean…

They’re usually funnier than that… promise — but I know puns aren’t for everyone.

That’s why it always amazes me that OPI nail polish uses so many when naming its colors.

It’s probably my favorite brand of nail polish, so I spend a lot of time looking over the shades when I hit the beauty-supply shop.

And believe me, I’ve gotten quite a few laughs along with some really great colors.

I’ve been meaning to write about “La Collection de France,” OPI’s fall-winter grouping that’s in shops right now.

The OPI site for the collection describes these shades as “rich, sensuous colors inspired by the effortless elegance of French fashion.”

Sounds so ritzy — then you start reading the names and the giggling starts.

First, there’s “You Don’t Know Jacques!,” followed by “Tickle My France-Y.”

Not to mention “Bastille My Heart”…

Oh, there are a few more — but I’ll leave you with my favorite “I’m Fondue of You.”

The laughing kind of softens my only quibble with the company: despite the passing of quite some time, I’m still smarting that my all-time favorite shade — Wyatt Earple Purple — was discontinued.

For now, I’m managing with Chicago Champagne Toast.

Cheers!
