A morning’s daydreams

I’m back in the office after spending the morning in Upper Grandview.
But if you take a look at where I was, you’d be forgiven for thinking I had made a quick jaunt to a country chateau in the heart of Europe.
No, this is right in the heart of Rockland County,
a $3.2 million home with sweeping views of the Hudson River and the Tappan Zee Bridge:
I was there to get a sneak peek at The Designer Show House on the Hudson. I’m writing a story about it to run in our Life & Style section (and also here on LoHud.com) next week; I’ll link to it when it’s published.
Here’s a quick bit of background. The home is actually a new construction, not a historic mansion. It’s an Energy Star 5 Star Plus project from Nyack builder Michael De Marco and is listed through the Nyack office of Prudential Rand.
To garner a bit of exposure for the impressive property, the idea of a show house came up — and a beneficiary chosen.
So… the show house will run Jan. 24 through Feb. 8, with proceeds to benefit Meals on Wheels Programs & Services of Rockland.
A benefit preview will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Jan. 23, including a wine-and-cheese reception. Admission is $25.
The house will then be open from noon to 5 p.m. (except Mondays and Tuesdays, when it’s by appointment only). Admission, payable at the door, will be $10.
That’s the “nuts and bolts” of it — but the real fun is seeing how the designers are transforming this vacant house into room after room of decorating ideas.
Lynn Jacobs, development associate at Meals on Wheels, is coordinating the project. It’s been a tight sked, with the project just starting to develop in November.
She said that most show-house projects are at least a year in the planning — but this one seems to be coming together in style thanks to the coordination and work of all the designers.
“They’re really coming through,” Jacobs said.
My colleague Joe Larese, a staff photographer, and I had fun touring the house — he took plenty of photos inside and I’ll be sharing those in coming days. (I just took those quick snaps above to give you a feel for the place).
My visit, even though it was during the work-in-progress stage, fueled quite a few daydreams. I’m definitely going to go see the house when it’s open.
And I just wanted to let you know so you can make plans to go, too.
