If you’re serious about antiques, then you already know that today’s opening day of The Winter Antiques Show in Manhattan.
Maybe you even attended last night’s glittering preview party of this 55th edition?
If so, I’m jealous.
I had the chance to go last year — and it was amazing.
And once again, I hear there’s a local presence among the 75 exhibitors gathering for the show.
Barbara Israel, of Katonah and Manhattan, will be showing her noted garden antiques.
Warren Adelson of Adelson Galleries — he’s got a home in Scarborough — will be on hand.
Hirschl & Adler Galleries, whose president Stuart Feld has a Westchester home, is also exhibiting again.
And Leigh Keno, whose company is now known as Leigh Keno Traditional/Modern, is also returning. You probably know him best as an appraiser with “Antiques Roadshow,” but did you know he spent some of his early days interning with Sleepy Hollow Restorations (now known as Historic Hudson Valley)?
The show is considered the best in the country — you’ll see museum-quality pieces and rub shoulders with world-class collectors.
And if you’re worried about the prices… well, there are some big-ticket items, to be sure — but you can still find things that you might consider worth the investment.
If not, treat it like a visit to the museum. Pay the $20 admission, enjoy the surroundings and take home the award-winning catalog as a souvenir.
And be sure to stop by this year’s featured loan exhibition, “The Fragile Art: Extraordinary Objects from The Corning Museum of Glass” from the Corning, N.Y.-institution.
As always, proceeds benefit the East Side House Settlement in the Bronx.
The show runs today through Feb. 1 at the Park Avenue Armory (at 67th Street) in Manhattan.
