Save the dates

On days like today when it’s just so snowy, all you want to do is stay inside.

And when you’re at home for extended periods, even if you’re busy, you tend to notice your surroundings a bit more… at least I do.

Those are the times when I start thinking about how I’d fix things up. Some ideas are just daydreaming (an indoor pool for exercise). Others are more practical, like revamping the catch-all closet.

The 2009 Suburban Home Show, which will be held Feb. 6 through 8 at Rockland Community College in Suffern is a going to be a place filled with ideas about sprucing up your surroundings.

This annual event — in its third decade — is returning with more than 350 exhibitor booths filling the school’s Fieldhouse. They’ll be showcasing products and services each day.

Categories represented will include remodeling and home-improvement contractors, lumber and building supplies, kitchens and baths, tools and hardware, windows, doors, decks and patios, outdoor furniture, sheds, landscapers, heating and air conditioning and pools and spas.

There will also be appearances by special guests including Rich Trethewey of “This Old House” and gardening expert Ralph Snodsmith.

The show will run from 3 to 9 p.m. Feb. 6, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Feb. 7 and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Feb. 8. Admission is $10, $5 for senior citizens and free for those under 16.

Call 800-248-7469 or visit the show site for more details, including the seminar/guest-appearance schedule.

It is indeed amazing what you see can be done to your abode when you’re stuck in it all day, avoiding the shoveling…
