Mary Shustack shops around

Still oh-so-Mod

March
19

Late yesterday, I had the chance to catch up with David Utschig.

He and his wife, Annie Treanor, own It’s A Mod Mod World Design in Nyack.

I’m writing a story about the furniture and home-accessories shop for our sister publication, Rockland Magazine.

I’ve worked with Utschig before, featuring the design destination in a Real Estate story I did last year — and it was great to see the place is as stylish as ever.

Utschig and Treanor also own Circa 2000, a more traditional antiques shop a few doors down South Broadway — one filled with European, primarily French, finds.

Here, though, it’s all mid-1950s to early 1970s.

And what a colorful trip into the past it is — this stuff is really my kind of thing, so I enjoyed poking around all the great pieces.

The shop focuses on good quality and fair prices, but I think what might stand out the most is the selection itself — Utschig is quick to praise his wife’s prowess on the buying front and clearly, she has a wonderful eye.

It’s one unique thing after another, from a funky lamp base to a work of art, from an odd-shaped vase to a cleverly detailed desk or credenza.

The story is expected to run in the June issue (yes, the magazine really has early deadlines) — but in the meantime, enjoy this glimpse into the shop through the pictures I took yesterday.

Think you’ll agree it’s pretty fun — and funky.

Stop by It’s a Mod Mod World Design, at 9 S. Broadway in Nyack. Call 845-353-5400. (Circa 2000 is a few doors away, at 13 S. Broadway).
