Mary Shustack shops around

Oh so sweet…

April

I have some photographs to share from my visit this morning to Luisa New York in Pleasantville.

It’s a shame there’s no way to also share the wonderful scents that fill the air.

From the moment you open the door to 42 Memorial Plaza and walk down the office-building hallway to find the lobby-level shop, you’re almost transported.

“Nourish your senses” is a slogan of Gili Zilca’s company, which specializes in hand-made soaps and body product (created by Zilca) — and a visit to Luisa New York definitely puts you in a “feeling-pampered” mood.

Since my stash of licorice lip gloss was practically done — I’ve been addicted to the product since my first visit there last year — I needed to go buy some more.

That gave me the chance to catch up with Zilca, who showed off some of her newest products and gave me some details about a special event coming up in early May.

I love how Zilca allows her shop to spill out of its cozy space, attracting customers with this pretty display right opposite the shop:

Back inside are these soaps, ideal for kids and selling for $6.50:

Don’t you just love the elegance of this rose-shaped soap?

Here’s the classic Zilca creation — a cake that can be customized for any occasion. Zilca, by the way, is really expanding her business on that end — she’s happy to work with customers to create a selection of favors for bridal (and children’s) parties.

Another “sweet” treat:

And these flower soaps ($5) were just too seasonally perfect:

I told Zilca it must be so much fun to take an idea and turn it into a soap. She agreed and shared that her next creation is going to be a goldfish-in-a-bag design for kids. How fun!

Now about that special event —

On May 2, during the regular hours of 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Zilca will hold a “Pre-Mother’s Day Party.” She’ll be unveiling her latest collection of botanical soaps, an eco-friendly line of olive-oil soaps combined with herbs.

She’ll also be offering a special Pink Ribbon Soap:

It’s a vanilla goat’s milk soap decorated with a rose-scented ribbon. A portion of the day’s proceeds from the sale of this soap will be donated to Susan G. Komen For the Cure, the organization dedicated to breast-cancer education, treatment and research.

The special event will again show off Zilca’s hospitality, since “Refreshments and Happiness will be served!”

So, stop by now — and then again on May 2 to check it all out.

Oh, and be sure to buy at least one lip balm or gloss ($2.95) when you go:

My favorite, as I said, is the licorice but there are also scents such as coconut, grape and the just-introduced orange (the next on my list to try).

Sure it will not only work well but smell just wonderful, too
