Mary Shustack shops around

I love it when shops put out newsletters.

It’s a way to build a community — and for you to find out what’s going on at your favorite haunt.

Most of these newsletters (or mailing lists) are filled with details on products carried, special events — and often include offers available only to list members (usually considered the shop’s best customers).

Updates, of course, keep you thinking of the shop — but also give you plenty of shopping options.

I think one of the most well-done efforts is put out by Holbrook Cottage — you might want to check it out.

The shop in Briarcliff Manor is a great destination for gifts, gourmet treats and accessories for the home (and yourself).

I featured them in-depth back in November as a “Shop of the Week” destination; click here for a look back at that visit.

The shop does a great job of keeping its customers informed through e-mail updates and a great old-school newsletter.

The current (paper) issue has gift ideas for weddings, showers and babies and details on some eco-friendly lines carried in the shop. There is even a handful of recipes that feature products sold in the store. (That halibut with mango pineapple chutney sounds interesting).

Overall, the reaching out adds up to a great resource — perhaps one you want to start receiving.

Visit the shop’s site (linked above) or stop by, at 1253 Pleasantville Road, for more details.

Call 914-944-0734.
