Art, food… what more do you need?

April

Ginny and Ken Ryan at Somers Custom Framing and The Gift Shop at Somers Custom Framing are always holding special events.

It’s great for regulars of the shop — which as you can tell from its name combines both a full-service framing business with a charming gift shop — but also allows newcomers to see what everything’s about while enjoying something a bit out of the ordinary. Read more of this entry »

More warehouse-sale news

April
27

I just gave you details of the first-ever warehouse sale at the Metropolitan Museum of Art book store.

Now, I have an event closer to home.

Two’s Company will hold another of its famed “charity warehouse sales” later this week. Read more of this entry »

Savings on books

April
27

I got to catch up on a bit of reading during my week off.

I have to admit I’m more of a library person rather than one who buys a lot of books — but there’s an event that might just change my mind.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art Bookshop is holding its first-ever warehouse book sale. Read more of this entry »

In the news(letter)

April

I love it when shops put out newsletters.

It’s a way to build a community — and for you to find out what’s going on at your favorite haunt.

Most of these newsletters (or mailing lists) are filled with details on products carried, special events — and often include offers available only to list members (usually considered the shop’s best customers).

Updates, of course, keep you thinking of the shop — but also give you plenty of shopping options.

I think one of the most well-done efforts is put out by Holbrook Cottage — you might want to check it out.

Cutting edge

April
27

I’m back from a week out of the office, so expect a bit of catching up this afternoon.

First up, Kitch n’ Kaffe (with locations in Bedford Hills and Mahopac) is holding a “Cutlery Extravaganza”

There’s a 30 percent-off sale of the already discounted prices on J.A. Henckels and Ergo Chef knives until May 15.

Also note, the shops offer a next-day knife sharpening service, starting at $3.

Finally, free knife skills classes will be held — at 7 tonight (sorry for the late notice) in Bedford Hills and at 7 p.m. May 5 in Mahopac.

Reservations are needed; visit the Kitch n’ Kaffe site for more details and to sign up.

I’m going to be out of the office next week and unable to post to the blog.

Before I go, though, I just wanted to remind you of a couple of things happening next week.

Talk about perfect timing

April
17

I was just talking to someone a few minutes ago about how the weather’s finally heating up.

I was already daydreaming of beach days when I came back to my desk and found an e-mail from Wishes in Yorktown Heights.

The boutique has announced that “Tie-dyed shorts are back and on sale now!” Read more of this entry »

You just knew…

April

It’s no surprise that the Beehive Co-op in Mount Kisco has a special event planned to mark Earth Day.

After all, Petra Geiger’s shop is all about shopping local, supporting the community and encouraging an earth-friendly approach.

(If you’ve not been to the Beehive Co-op yet… why not? Take a look back to my first visit to get a feel for the place). Read more of this entry »
