Those who love shopping for antiques might want to note that a longtime show is set to return to Manhattan in January.

Plans for Thursday?

June
22

This time of year, it seems like weekends fill up pretty quickly.

And there’s not always time for shopping, which can be a problem when you have gifts to buy.

That’s one of the reasons why I was pleased to hear about “Nyack’s Late Night.”

For a good cause

June

If you want to ease any guilt about shopping (these days it’s even harder to justify the “more is more” philosophy), there’s a benefit event later this week in Manhattan you might like to know about.

The DIVAS Shop for Opera event will match up “high notes and high-end fashion,” allowing you to shop from a selection of deeply discounted merchandise — valued at more than one million dollars — donated by a (very) long list of designers. Read more of this entry »

Coming tomorrow

June

I have a story running tomorrow in our Life & Style section and also here on LoHud.com.

It’s a colorful look at some “must-have” summer accessories — I had fun picking a handful of items that pack a lot of style into some pretty reasonable prices. Read more of this entry »

In the news

June

I’ve been working with Lisa McTernan for the last few years tapping into her expertise when I’ve been writing various stories related to home and design.

She’s a designer with a great eye — and the owner of a really fun (and funky) shop, Lifestyles & Interiors by Lisa.

Guess I’m not the only one who’s calling on her wealth of knowledge — she’s let me know that she’s been tapped this month’s “resident expert” by Westchester Home magazine.

Check it out — she’s shared her overview of the hottest trends picked up on a trip to the High Point Furniture Market in High Point, N.C.

And next time you’re in the area, check out how she’s worked them into the offerings of her shop, at 33 N. Riverside Ave. in Croton-on-Hudson.

Call 914-862-4163.

For gardening fans

June

For those of you who love to shop for gardening-related goods, I just wanted to pass along something my friend and colleague Bill Cary told me about.

Bill’s our gardening expert — you’ve probably read his In the Garden blog.

Well, he has written about Hilltop Farms Garden Supply & Marketplace in Croton-on-Hudson.

I hear the venture has a gift-shop component, so you know that got my attention.

Anyone been there yet?
