Perfect timing

July

I couldn’t help but smile when I just started to look over the pictures I took yesterday afternoon at Sassafras NY.

The Brewster shop is filled with kids’ clothing, toys and gifts, and I was there to pick up a backpack we’re borrowing for a photo shoot for one of my back-to-school stories.

I’ve written a number of times about the beautiful jewelry created by Anne Koplik Designs up in Brewster.

Many of those times have been about the company’s showroom sales, where the jewelry is gorgeous and the prices are fantastic.

On the move

I’ve heard from Glenn Arkin at Strawtown Jewelry in West Nyack that he and his wife, Ellen, will be moving their shop in coming weeks.

The Arkins have been in West Nyack for more than 20 years and hope to settle into a new space, at 40 S. Main St. in New City, within three weeks.

As anyone who’s moved knows, it’s easier to do it with less… Read more of this entry »

Save the date

The latest mailing from the Rockland Family Shelter included a “save-the-dates” page, and one thing jumped right out at me.

The organization’s 14th annual Designer Fashion Sale will be held Sept. 23 and 24.

If you’ve been, you know the great bargains you’ll find.

If you’ve not, you will want to consider this shopping event that helps the organization. Read more of this entry »

Red-hot savings

I’m working again with Anne Ainslie of Black Squirrel Outfitters in Pelham.

I featured her shop, which specializes in fashions for men and boys, last year.

For one of my back-to-school stories, she’s telling me what’s selling well (check out special section Aug. 17 for details).

But Ainslie’s also let me know that Read more of this entry »

I ran into Glenn Osonitsch at the Nyack street fair earlier this month.

He was selling a batch of his great clothing in a booth set up outside The Shops at 92 Main, where his boutique, Great Dames, is.

Well, the bargains continue — as this note from Glenn shows: Read more of this entry »
