I love shopping in places where the store owners seem to support each other.
I’ve always gotten that sense when I’ve been in Peekskill, for example. If someone doesn’t have what you need, they suggest a neighbor who might. I’ve received countless story tips and help over the years from all kinds of shops and businesses up there.
Well, yesterday I was in Pleasantville, going to the Jacob Burns Film Center.
Before my movie, I stopped for a coffee (ok, I admit it, and a cookie, too) at Dragonfly Cafe — I’ve been there a few times before, really a cool place… and I made sure to look out for the “Pleasantville brochure.”
The chamber of commerce there puts out these monthly brochures that really do a great job of telling you what’s going on in town. There are event listings, shop contact information and even a map:
And thanks to this brochure, I found out about a sidewalk sale set for this coming weekend:
I’m sure the locals love this brochure — and I know those just passing through town like me also find it helpful.
Be sure to grab one next time you’re there.

Tomorrow, stop back for a sneak peek at Paper by Nature, a Larchmont shop owned and run by artist Maria Cisneros. I was there this morning for a visit and interview but didn’t have a chance to post all that today.
