When buying isn’t fun…

July
24

One of my weekend chores is to visit the Verizon store.

I dropped my new-and-uninsured phone in a glass of water last night.

Yes, I know how silly that sounds — and realize what a dumb move it was.

I was carrying too much down the stairs (a habit of mine), and I guess my hands were too full and the next thing I knew, “plop” — there it went.

Well, now I have to see what my options are… and dreading the experience, mainly since it’s all due to being thoughtless.

Not such fun shopping.

Sweet, sweet scents

July
23

Last night I got home after a long day, really kind of dragging.

Before I had left the office, though, I remembered to grab the sample products I had received earlier this week from Lilah Living.

And I’m glad I did.

I’ve received an update from Madelyn Jordon Fine Art, the gallery in Scarsdale.

Not only does it point out some of its own sales and upcoming events but includes an alert about the Scarsdale Sidewalk Sale, set for July 30 through Aug. 1:

For budget-minded brides and bridegrooms

July
22

I have a friend who’s in the midst of her wedding plans, even though her day is still quite a ways off.

It’s got to be tough to plan such a big — and important — event during these tough economic times.

The folks over at The Doubletree Hotel in Tarrytown not only sympathize but Read more of this entry »

Bags, at a bargain

July
20

I’ve heard from Patrice Turkell that a big sale is under way at Big Buddha.

If you recall, she’s the Suffern woman who opened the first Big Buddha shop in the country, in nearby Bergen County, N.J.

Click back here for a bit of a tour — and then know that she says “All of our summer handbags are 20 – 50% off ! (while supplies last).”

Sounds tempting, don’t you think?

The shop’s at 24 N. Dean St. in Englewood.

Call 201-569-4555.

A welcome return

I had the nicest time shopping (browsing, strolling and chatting) yesterday at the Nyack street fair.

If you’re on the lookout for some outdoor goods, from lawn items to sporting equipment, you might want to keep the Putnam County 4-H Fair in mind.

More ‘green’ news

July
14

Earlier today I posted about Paper by Nature, an eco-friendly shop in Larchmont.

Well, my friend and colleague Bill Cary, our gardening writer, just let me know he’s put up something on his In the Garden blog about an event this weekend at Shades of Green in Mohegan Lake.

I’ve written about Myra Marsocci’s eco-minded nursery and garden shop a few times; click here for the most recent.

Now, Bill tells me — and you — that she’s having an “Art in the Parking Lot” event.

Click here to read all about it.
