Sad to hear…

May

I never like to hear about a store closing — you just imagine all the work that went into it and how it will change the face of the community once it leaves.

Earlier today, I heard that Wondrous Things is leaving Croton-on-Hudson after nearly 20 years.

Now that’s effort

May

I was contacted recently about an event going on this weekend, so I took a few moments to check it out.

It’s the fifth annual Open Studios at the YoHo Artist Studios in Yonkers.

I’d not heard of the YoHo Artists before, but they seem to be a really well-organized bunch — the site even has a [...]

View from the bus (and the fields)

May

This is getting to be a habit.

And it’s a good one.

I was on assignment yesterday, once again joining a group of shoppers, collectors and antiques lovers on a one-day excursion to the Brimfield, Mass., flea markets. Sorry I was too wiped out to file a report last night, so wanted to give you a taste [...]

Coming tomorrow

May
14

Before I head off for my road trip to Brimfield, Mass., (going on a bus trip with some other antiques lovers later this morning to hit the famed antiques shows) I wanted to leave a quick post.

I’ve written a story on an exhibition that opens in Katonah this Sunday.

It scheduled for tomorrow’s Life & Style [...]

Later this week…

May
13

Just wanted to give a bit of a sneak peek into this Thursday’s “shop of the week” feature.

I’ll be out on assignment tomorrow — I’m heading up to Brimfield, Mass., on an antiques-shopping trip (check back for my report later this week) — but wanted to give a glimpse into East India Designs.

Artful shopping

May

There’s just something special about buying a work created by an artist.

It could be something you buy on an “open-studio” tour, at a crafts event — or simply at a gallery.

The Eclectic Collector in Katonah is a gallery that is filled with the creations of some 400 artists.

Just a few of the categories represented include [...]

With flair…

May

I love over-the-top names for shopping events.

Why have a sale when you can have a blow-out?

Well, I’ve heard from Stephanie Leggio that her Tarrytown shop, Pretty Funny Antiques, is about to host its “Spring Extravaganza.”

I know I’m excited.

Don’t forget

May

Kicking off my weekend in style tonight, combining some shopping research with some plain ol’ shopping.

I’m headed up to the Anne Koplik Designs warehouse sale — which I wrote about last month.

The sale is a two-weekend event; I was away for its first weekend, so will be going up to Brewster to check it out [...]

A dollar’s ‘worth’

May
9

I have a longtime friend who is a fiend for marshmallows.

And one of my sisters has taken to buying him any “novelty” marshmallow treat she comes across.

This time, I think she has truly topped herself — scoring points for both originality and frugality.

Drumroll, please….

Something sweet

May
9

I’ve gotten word from Janet Robinson – who, along with Barbara Truesdale, owns Szent & Company in Larchmont – the shop has just expanded its offerings.

I can still remember what a fun time I had when I visited them in early April.

The store, if you remember, specializes in essential oils and related products, all sold [...]
